How Do I Get Rid of Bad Breath?

A whiff of bad breath is not something anyone wants to deal with when you have to meet many people around the clock. You might not even be aware that you have bad breath, as your friends may be outright scared to tell you that you have a nasty breath. Nowadays, bad breath is more of a lifestyle concern than a health condition.

Why Do I Have Bad Breath?

It is normal to have bad breath in the morning because of the decreased flow of saliva that aids in digestion and removes the odor-causing particle in the mouth.  On the other hand, two major causes of bad breath are a health condition and lack of a good oral hygiene routine.

Now, what are the other reasons for bad breath?

  • Dry mouth
  • Gum disease
  • Gingivitis
  • Tonsil stones
  • Sinusitis and post-nasal drip
  • Certain kinds of food and drinks
  • Alcohol
  • Smoking
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease
  • Certain kinds of medication
  • Liver disease or kidney disease

How Can I Get Rid of Bad Breath?

Here are some simple ways you can reduce and get rid of your bad breath.

  • Follow a healthy oral routine.
  • Brush and floss twice a day.
  • Brush your tongue as well.
  • Start using fluoride-based toothpaste.
  • Make sure to change your toothbrush every two to three months and after being sick.
  • Drink ample water and keep your mouth hydrated throughout the day.
  • Make sure to brush after a meal as it reduces bacteria growth rates.
  • If you have a denture or braces, make sure to clean it properly and that it fits well.
  • Quit Smoking or using any tobacco-based products.
  • Keep your mouth from drying out by drinking water, chewing sugarless gum, or sugar-free candy.
  • Include good probiotics in your regular diet.
  • Even though it is just a temporary solution, you can also use mouthwash regularly to mask the bad breath for a while.

A more permanent solution can be provided by the dentist. A professional checkup by a specialist can accurately diagnose the problem and provide the necessary support to bring you on the right track. So make sure to have a visit to the dentist every six months.
